Lying Liars

In yesterday's post I praised conservatives John Derbyshire and Andrew Sullivan for their plain talk on the relative merits of evolution and ID. Sadly, American conservatism nowadays is mostly represented by people like Sean Hannity:

On the August 30 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Fox News host Sean Hannity falsely blamed "the anti-war left" for a protest at the August 28 funeral of Sgt. Jeremy Doyle of Indianapolis, who was killed while serving in Iraq. Hannity read excerpts of an article on the website of Indianapolis TV station WISH describing the protest, adding, "I guess this is just another example of how the anti-war left supports our brave troops." In fact, as The Indianapolis Star reported, the protesters were not anti-war liberals but, rather, members of Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) in Topeka, Kansas, who claim that the deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq are inflicted by God to punish the United States for its acceptance of gays and lesbians.

And now they are thanking God for Katrina

Religious-right fanatics and leaders are also decrying Katrina as a sign from god that he's "displeased" with the current rise of the right.

The rationale goes like this: coincidental with the biggest visible rise of "fundamentalist right" thought in the media, in the white house, etc., god "smites" one of the most "religious" cities in the US, which is one of the most "religious" of countries.

Shows what happens when you stray away from solid, logical thought - your thinking process becomes flawed, and you never know quite how to think.

Twisting in the wind must be an uncomfortable way to live . . . .

I'm really getting tired of God sending these cryptic messages with ambiguous meanings. If he is so friggin omnipotent, why can't he e-mail everybody and be absolutely clear about his intentions. Is there a Godblog? I'd be more than happy to bookmark it if there was.

What's really shameful of Mr. Hannity is that he reads the article practically word for word EXCEPT FOR the bit about the group being a wacko church. It fits much better with his agenda that this protest came from the "anti-war left" (whoever that is) than a group of religious nutters.

Hey Nekkid Truth - I had a vision that Katrina IS a sign from "You Know Who" that He is displeased with IDrs... In my vision, it was told to me that the water will only recede if Dembski, Behe etc are "given" to the water god.

Bet you can't prove me wrong!

Mr. Hannity seems to think that anyone who takes a dissident position on Iraq, or who isn't a loud mouthed blowhard neo-con, must be an anti-war leftist liberal wet-sock.

Frankly, I'd be proud to be called such by Hannity, it would mean I was normal.
